4 Ways to Plan Ahead for Your Beach Vacation

Whether it’s warm or cold here in Ohio, it’s always nice to get away for a bit and having a vacation to look forward gives you time to plan and make the most out of your trip. Planning ahead will make the trip itself a breeze, leaving you with nothing to do but relax and enjoy. Here are four ways you can plan ahead to make the most of your vacation.

Where do you want to go?

Deciding where to take your vacation can be a challenge. However, if you’re looking for affordable beach vacations, you’re in luck! Allegiant offers nonstop flights to sunny Florida destinations.

Where are you going to park?

Flying from our local Dayton International Airport (DAY) means starting your vacation earlier than you’d expect. Parking at DAY is easier than those bigger airports because whether you choose the Long Term or Economy lots, friendly shuttle drivers will pick you up and get you to the terminal entrance. If you prefer the Garage, you can reserve your spot online (see FlyDayton.com for details).

Travel Pro Tip: Once you get past security, check out the newly updated Business Travelers Center for a relaxing place to settle in with a good book. The new space provides an updated, more convenient place for business travelers and a new adjacent dining room called The Wright Stuff with a quick service menu and cocktails.

What are you going to pack?

For a beach vacation, of course you’ll need warm weather clothing, swimsuits, and flip flops, but there are some other things you might want to consider. Bringing along some walking shoes will make it easier to explore the beach town and see any historical or educational sites you might be interested in. Insect repellent isn’t always something you readily think about for the beach but if you want to explore other natural areas such as forests or nature preserves on your trip, you will want to have some handy. If you plan on only taking a carry on, keep in mind that the liquids in your bag will have to be under 3.4 ounces and must be in one quart-sized, clear bag.

What are you going to eat?

Searching for local food blogs in the cities you’re visiting can mean avoiding the tourist traps and getting to the good stuff – the places where the locals frequent. It’s widely accepted that finding where the locals eat is preferable because the food has to be good to get people coming back for more – plus it can be cheaper than restaurants designed to draw vacationers. Doing this research online ahead of time takes a little planning but will likely be worth it in flavor and savings.

What do you want to do?

Figuring out what attractions, historical points of interest, museums, beaches, parks, etc. that you want to see is probably the most important thing to do ahead of time. This research will tell you valuable information like if there are ticket packages available for reduced prices, or if there are only certain days places are open. Searching points of interest on Google can provide information about when they experience their busiest times and reviews can help you avoid attractions that don’t measure up to the hype. Unfortunately, vacations don’t last forever so it’s important to make sure you’re seeing the sites you can’t miss and avoiding the ones that aren’t worth your time.

No matter where your travels take you this year, when you plan ahead, you can focus all your time and energy on making memories with your family and friends and less time on last minute scrambling. Plus, when you travel with DAY, you’ll be able to start thinking about your trip even more with how easy it is to travel to and through.
